James L. Black

President, Owner

Jim Black has been president of Jim Black Construction for 35 years and has worked in the construction industry for over 40 years. Jim has extensive experience and knowledge in all phases of construction, including the design and construction of residential, commercial and multi-family buildings. He has been involved in builder defect construction and is an expert in restoration, including fire, water, hail, wind and other related peril. Jim’s broad knowledge includes all aspects of skilled trades, carpentry, project management, contract negotiations, estimating, sales and marketing. Jim has developed and managed projects of varying types and sizes, working alongside architects, engineers, and building departments. He is responsible for establishing relationships and educating insurance carriers, property management companies, and municipalities pertaining to construction, architectural and engineering document review, evaluations, and estimating. Jim Black is the Chief Executive Officer of Jim Black Construction, Inc. and oversees all aspects of the company, including the construction division, the water mitigation division, administrative operations, budgets, business development, and human resources.

James C. Black

Division Senior Project Manager, Construction

Jimmy has 15 years of professional experience with Jim Black Construction, although he has been around the industry his entire life. As a graduate of the Colorado State University Construction Management Program, Jimmy’s experience comes by way of four years of field-work including demolition, asbestos abatement, framing, finish carpentry and all aspects of skilled trades. He has 11 years of project management experience in commercial, industrial, multi-family and residential construction, managing new construction projects and specializing in fire, water, wind, and hail restoration. Currently, as the Senior Project Manager, Jimmy’s duties include negotiations, contracts, estimating, scheduling, budgets, field supervision, municipality permits and inspections, and reviewing/working with architectural, and structural engineering documents. Recently, Jimmy obtained the International Code Council Building Contractor B License. He is a HAAG Certified Roofing Inspector, Claims Training Services Certified and Xactimate trained, as well as, OSHA, EPA Lead Safe, and IICRC Certified. He also has certifications in asbestos and mold removal.

Tony Barton

Lead Superintendent

Tony has over 30 years of professional construction experience, 20 years with Jim Black Construction alone. As a Master Carpenter, Tony brings great knowledge and leadership to the field, backing Jim Black Construction’s commitment to its clients. Tony has been a Superintendent with Jim Black for 10 years and is EPA Lead Safe Certified. As the Lead Superintendent, Tony oversees all other superintendents, and supervises all phases of damage clean-up and reconstruction. Tony’s field knowledge gives him the ability to visualize area layouts and optimize the space and design to ensure our customers are getting the best and most efficient use of their home or business.
